Jeff Green Live

Between 1947 and 1982, over one million people - the ‘10 Quid Poms’ - travelled from the UK and Ireland to Australia as part of the Ten Pound Assisted Passage scheme. Before the advent of email, text, cheap phone calls and Skype, these migrants kept in touch with their loved ones back home by sending letter and postcard requests in to the long-running hit BBC radio show ‘Two-Way Family Favourites’.

Along with most of the UK, Jeff and his family were glued to the kitchen radio every Sunday lunch, the overly-dramatic and sweeping theme music mingling with the smell of the roast being cooked in the oven. As a child listening to those requests from people living in exotically named places abroad, Jeff would wonder what they looked like, imagining sun-bleached places similar to the countryside he’d seen on TV shows like Skippy and later Walkabout.
